Matthew Yarnes, a former member of the New Shinobi Order, resigned his role as a samurai after six years of service due to the Earth’s Fault uprising. Later, Anagi, another member of the New Shinobi Order, tracked down and killed Matthew’s family irrationally. The death of Matthew’s family resulted in his returning to Biei, Hokkaido. The New Shinobi Order eventually turned on Matthew and banished him from their land. For that reason, Matthew was forced to travel across Japan to obtain more answers from the unidentified assassin. Over the next ten years, Matthew trained with various swordsmen and ninjas at the Buddhist Temple, “Monastery of Spirits.”. He practiced and perfected the hardest martial arts combat techniques there, including  Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Judo. Matthew focused heavily on the reconstruction of his mind, revenge to him was a priority but the answers he desired weighed more on his heart and mind. Anagi, eventually manipulated Matthew, persuading him that another group member was the killer. Enraged by Anagi’s remarks, Matthew took matters into his own hands by stealing the “Titan Book.”. From the book, he read out sayings, repeated affirmations, cursed stories, and quotes. This was the birth of Hakai.

Once the name “HAKAI” is spoken into existence, Matthew will transform his own body into a darker, more villainous side of himself. Matt is no longer in control of his actions Hakai, a spirit who was imprisoned behind the gates of the Titan Book grants Matthew with inhuman abilities, such as super strength, super speed, esoteric lighting, and spirit magic. During the years of training at the temple, Matthew acquired the Star Blade. The sword contains a tiny fragment of a star that enables Matthew to manipulate magic as well as stellar energy.

Hakai eventually is faced with another problem: he is tracked down by the guardian of the Titan Book, God Traitor. However, Matthew cannot abandon the spirit of Hakai due to their complicated merger of the cursed spells he has read. For Matthew to let go of the spirit, Hakai itself must come to a mutual understanding with Matthew to be released….Talk about a curse.
